Why the Sunshine Vitamin is Crucial for Your Health

Let’s talk about Vitamin D, one of the most underrated and misunderstood vitamins out there. It’s more than just a nutrient guy and this is why you need to know about. It’s a lifeline to better health, energy, and vitality. Shockingly over 40% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D! That’s almost half of the population! And yet, the solution is so simple: sunlight. Sunlight is free & so easy to access.

Most of us think Vitamin D comes from food or supplements. many of us were even taught to get it from our processed & denatured milk products. The majority of your Vitamin D is actually synthesized when sunlight hits your skin and enters your body through your eyes. Yes, your pupils play a major role! Wearing sunglasses or blocking your skin with sunscreen every time you step outside can severely limit your Vitamin D production. I have trained myself to go without sunglasses 90% of the time I am outside and no, I do not wear any sunblock. Unfiltered sunlight every day is essential for your well-being.

So how do you know if you’re deficient? The best way is to get your Vitamin D levels checked through a simple blood test called the 25-hydroxy Vitamin D test. Many people are shocked when they see their results because even those who spend time outdoors can still be deficient due to poor absorption or other health factors. Low Vitamin D levels are linked to fatigue, depression, weakened immunity, brittle bones, and even more severe issues like heart disease and autoimmune conditions.

But here’s the flip side: maintaining healthy Vitamin D levels is like unlocking the key to optimal health. With sufficient Vitamin D, your mood improves, your bones strengthen, your immune system thrives, and you feel more energized. It’s amazing how something as simple as sunlight can have such profound effects on your body isn't it?

If you’re concerned about sun damage, it’s essential to use a non-toxic, 100% natural sunscreen for longer exposure. Look for brands like Badger or Goddess Garden, which avoid harsh chemicals and allow your skin to breathe. These products protect you from harmful UV rays while still letting your body absorb sunlight. I do not encourage tradition sunblock's as they contain cancer causing chemicals.

Incorporating sun time into your routine is easy and enjoyable. Spend 20–30 minutes outside during peak sunlight hours with bare skin and open eyes (no sunglasses). Make it part of your morning ritual or take a break mid-day to soak in those rays. And if you can’t get enough sunlight where you live, high-quality Vitamin D3 supplements are a great backup plan. Please not that I want you to always pair them with Vitamin K2 for maximum absorption.

Vitamin D is more than a vitamin; it’s a natural healer. With a few simple lifestyle changes, you can give your body what it needs to thrive. So, go ahead and step outside, take a deep breath, and let the sun do its magic. Sun makes everything on earth grow and thrive!
