Consistency Is Key: Small Steps Create Big Results

Have you ever set a goal, started strong, and then felt like giving up halfway through because the results weren’t coming fast enough? You’re not alone. This is the story of the average New Year's Resolution new gym goer. Staying consistent with anything; whether it’s a fitness routine, a healthy diet, or even a personal growth habit can feel overwhelming when the progress seems slow. I understand! But let me tell you something I’ve learned through years of helping people heal and transform: Consistency is where the magic happens.

One of my favorite sayings is that the only difference between someone that succeeds and someone that doesn't is the one that succeeds just didn't stop while the one that failed stopped. Just don't stop!

You want to think of consistency like planting seeds in a garden. At first, it feels like nothing is happening. You water the soil, you pull the weeds, and you wait. Day after day, it looks the same, just a bunch of dirt. But then, seemingly out of nowhere, those seeds sprout. As long as you keep showing up and tending to them, they grow into something beautiful that you can be so proud of. That’s exactly how your health and wellness journey works. Every small action you take, every healthy meal, every walk, every moment of mindfulness; builds on itself. You may not see it right away, but those small, daily actions are transforming you from the inside out. You can not quit even when it gets tough.

I understand how frustrating it can be to stay motivated when progress feels slow. You might look in the mirror and think, “Why bother?” You might even feel tempted to quit altogether. I beg of you to not do this!

Remember I told you this: Lasting change doesn’t happen overnight.

Like I said before, the people who succeed are the ones who keep going, even when it’s hard, even when they feel like they’re failing. Because here’s the truth: consistency isn’t about being perfect, but it is about showing up, again and again.

If you’re struggling to stay consistent, here are a few tips that might help.

#1. Set small, realistic goals. Instead of aiming to lose 20 pounds in a month, aim to drink more water every day or go for a 10-minute walk after dinner. When you focus on small wins, you’ll feel more motivated to keep going.

#2. Track your progress. Whether it’s a journal, an app, or even just a calendar where you check off each day, seeing your streak of consistency can be incredibly rewarding.

#3. Remind yourself why you started. Write down your “why” and put it somewhere you’ll see every day. Maybe it’s to have more energy to play with your kids, to heal from a chronic illness, or simply to feel better in your own skin.

Another thing I always tell my clients is to give themselves grace. Be your own best friend always. Life happens. You’re going to have days where you slip up, and that’s okay. One off day doesn’t erase all the good you’ve done. What matters is that you pick yourself back up and keep going. Remember, progress isn’t a straight line; it’s a journey, with ups and downs, speed bumps, curves and maybe even a pothole or two along the way.

Friend: if you’re feeling discouraged right now, take a deep breath and know that you’re not alone. Every step you take, no matter how small, is a step closer to the life you want. Be kind to yourself, celebrate your progress, and trust the process. The results may take time, but they’re worth it. Do you know what is the best part? You’re building habits that will stick with you for a lifetime. Thats what being your own best friend is all about!
